Engineering and Technical Services
LCE provides engineering and technical support services to U.S. and foreign Navies throughout the world. We support various program initiatives to reduce workload, maintenance, manning and overall life cycle costs of Navy surface combatant, carrier and auxiliary ships with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in areas that include electrical and mechanical engineering, systems engineering and software engineering.
What can LCE’s ESG offer you?
Unique knowledge base
The ESG team’s stock in trade is its deep knowledge of the equipment and software environments used by naval ships. Our engineers and technicians provide maintenance management, equipment assessments and onboard technical support for the maintenance and modernization of all critical HM&E systems and equipment. We have support personnel strategically located in close proximity to key U.S. Navy facilities to ensure that we can meet our customers’ needs.
Partners for performance
The ESG team is an expert partner with U.S. and foreign navies to ensure equipment and systems perform to design. The team’s broad base of knowledge in the HM&E environment and our wide expertise in software engineering provides Navy teams with qualified assessments of conditions, optimized strategies and tactics for maintaining and upgrading that material condition, and expert support over the life cycle of the equipment and related systems.
ESG’s Expertise
Our SMEs support the fleet’s propulsion systems, machinery control systems, damage control systems, auxiliary systems and bridge/navigation systems. A U.S. Navy ship is typically designed to operate for a 40 year life cycle, beginning with the ship construction/acquisition phase, through a mid-life modernization phase, and then a continued in-service engineering support phase. Depending upon the specific phase of a ship’s life cycle, our LCE SMEs are involved in engineering and technical services in the following areas:
Systems Requirements & Specification Development
System specification development requires reviewing top level requirements to meet operational needs.
Software and Hardware Requirements
Once top level requirements are developed, software and hardware requirements are developed to tailor the specifications to require standardized, Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) components for reduced life cycle management cost, improved availability and supportability.
Software Development
Using CMMI principles for software repeatability and reliability, we develop software using PLC ladder Logic and C++ for Human Machine Interface (HMI).
Systems Engineering
We integrate seasoned engineering disciplines with unique expertise into a team effort forming a structured development process that proceeds from concept to installation to operation. Our process considers both the overall benefit as well as the technical needs that will meet the U.S. Navy’s needs as well as increasing system performance reliability.
Writing Test Plans and Test Procedures
We write test plans and procedures to ensure all test requirements for shock, vibration, environmental, etc. are sufficiently tested in the most effective and efficient way.
Building Out Test Labs and Developing Simulation Test Equipment
We create test component list builds, order and procure equipment, set up test equipment, and develop simulation/stimulation (SIM/STIM) equipment and software to test the systems equipment.
System Installation
We coordinate the installation and develop as well as conduct the training of systems on new and existing ships at waterfront locations including San Diego, CA, Norfolk, VA, Mayport, FL, Bath, ME, Pascagoula, MS and Bremerton, WA. Our expertise is enhanced by extensive experience throughout fleet homeports around the globe, by supporting material assessments, equipment repairs and machinery alterations.
Technologies
We work with a variety of technologies including Machinery Control Systems (MCS), Sensors and Instrumentation, Integrated Condition Assessment System (ICAS), Integrated Bridge & Navigation System (IBNS) and Integrated Ship Controls (ISC).
